May 10, 2018: What to do when your apartment building management violates the lease with things like:

  • Early morning loud landscaping noise from leaf blowers
  • Appliances in disrepair for months

I have over a decade of renting experience. I’ll teach you how to win when you’re a renter. You are not powerless. Remember – most people don’t complain when things are wrong. Most people assume those in charge know more than they do. They don’t. They’re no smarter than you.

This info about pollution from leaf blowers is NUTS. They are more insidious than I had ever heard.

EPA Statistics: Gas Mowers represent 5% of U.S. Air Pollution –http://www.peoplepoweredmachines.com/…

“Americans are obsessed with their lawns. Each year, Americans spend billions of dollars seeking green perfection, using gas-powered lawn mowers, gas-powered leaf blowers, weed whackers, and hedge trimmers. In many neighborhoods (especially on the weekends), there is a constant roar from all this lawn car activity.”

  • Gas-powered lawn mowers range from 82 to 90 decibels.
  • Gas-powered leaf blowers make 80 to 92 decibels of racket.
  • Weed whackers make 96 decibels of noise.
  • Hedge trimmers can blast away at 103 decibels.
  • Exposure to 80 to 92 decibels of noise for two hours can cause hearing damage.

Leaf blower noise is particularly irritating because of its pitch, the changing amplitude, and the hearer’s lack of control. –https://noisefree.org/sources-of-nois…

Austin noise ordinance – depends on zoning. Find your zone: * “…[a residence may not] use sound equipment that produces a sound that is audible beyond the property line between 10:00 PM and 10:00 AM [9-2-5 (B)]”  –http://austinnoise.org/the-austin-noi…

“A name for a girl, preferably an extremely hot girl, that you find pride in just knowing her.” (Typically considered too informal and harassing to use with a female tenant when you’re the maintenance staff.)
