Exploring Transparent Pricing and Effective Marketing Strategies for Financial Advisors
Did you know that 68% of consumers feel more engaged with businesses that show honest pricing upfront? Transparent pricing (especially when prices are perceived as high) can significantly boost your long-term success. This applies to any business but particularly for financial advisors / RIAs.
88% of investors rank full disclosure of fees and other costs as important, but only 59% of advisors are perceived as achieving this. (Statista)
Last year, YCharts published some wild survey results: 54% of clients said they changed financial advisors due primarily to weak communication (marketing / comms). So transparency across all aspects of your business is key. Pricing and marketing go hand in hand.
As a 1-year-old client of an advisor myself, I’m giving you the scoop on why, despite great performance DIY’ing my investments for 15 years, I decided to hire an expert. The reduced energy expenditure and peace of mind was worth the fee but there’s more to the emotional aspect of this decision. And 95% of purchase decisions are emotional so you have to really understand this.
This video has insights into how to market to and CLOSE successful professionals like me (call us elder millennials if you like).
Watch this episode of “Voice Marketing with Emily Binder”:
The combination of transparent pricing and short-form video content marketing can drive your success well into the future. They both signal trust.
Fees: The standard financial advisor fee model of ~1% AUM isn’t always profitable due to the 80/20 rule (Pareto Principle). Can you relate to the least profitable 20% of clients taking 80% of your time and energy?
And there may be a better way to price financial advice / financial planning for both advisors and clients that isn’t based on AUM. Lastly, I cover stats and content marketing tips for financial advisors, focusing on the importance of organic content and the domination of short-form video. Hear it all in the video above.

Okay so publishing transparent pricing is a no-brainer. How do you do it exactly from a design and copywriting standpoint? Here’s my favorite advisor fee page from Horizon Wealth Advisors in Houston, TX.
The key to the clarity is copywriting that includes the phrase “of the next”:

What they do especially well: Use the words “the next ___ dollars”. This is much clearer to a reader than giving single numbers. Flat dollar amounts leave your prospect wondering if once they are at $1,000,001, is the entire amount is then billed at a lower percentage? (That is a common point of confusion in clients.)
Now that we’ve covered price transparency and clients’ desire for total clarity on fees, let’s move onto the format of marketing that lends so well to the overall perception of transparency and authenticity for brands: video.
